First Transnational Project Meeting of the AI-assisted Foreign Language Education in Higher Education (AI-NYELV) Project

The first transnational project meeting for the Erasmus+ project AI-assisted Foreign Language Education in Higher Education (AI-NYELV) took place from June 26th 2025 to June 27th, 2025 at the Insedo, Veszprem (Hungary). AI-NYELV is a transnational project led by Gergo Palfy from Insedo. The project involves a total of seven partners, i.e. five Higher Education Institutions (University of Goeteborg, University of Cyprus, University of Warsaw, University of Barcelona, SSML Carlo Bo) and two enterprises across Europe (Insedo – the leader, and FIAS International), as well as one associated partner (University of Pannonia). This 30-month long project aims to explore the informed use of AI to support language teaching in universities, with the aim of offering a critical and systematic analysis of the opportunities and limitations of AI-enabled technologies, as well as balancing the effectiveness of technological solutions with an educational approach that keeps human interaction at the centre of the learning process.

Throughout the duration of the project there will be studied the pros and cons of using AI tools for language learning and translation, with a particular focus on university students as it is necessary to develop methodologies that enable students to acquire a conscious mastery of these tools, learning to recognise their limitations and to use them ethically and effectively. There will also be developed a training programme for teachers, who will increasingly be called upon to integrate AI into their teaching methods – the project aims to offer tools and resources for the ongoing training of teachers, providing them with both technical skills and a solid theoretical framework for understanding and critically managing the use of AI in language teaching.

The kick-off meeting in Veszprem was devoted to institutional presentations of each partner from the project perspective, to discussing the tasks and their deadlines and to start to process of the project realisation.
