Module 2

AI for creating, adapting, and curating Foreign Language materials

Module description

This module develops AI-supported material creation skills for foreign language teaching, with a focus on prompting, iteration, and source grounding. It explores how AI can streamline the production of learning resources across different levels and contexts, while helping teachers identify and address issues such as inaccuracies, bias, inappropriate difficulty levels, and unverified information. Through tools such as Google Gemini and NotebookLM, they compare AI outputs and develop strong editorial judgement and pedagogical control.

Learning outcomes

  • On successful completion, learners will be able to identify and evaluate AI tools suitable for FL material creation, adaptation, and curation, distinguishing tools that generate content from general training data from tools that ground their output in user-provided sources.

  • On successful completion, learners will be able to adapt AI-generated materials through targeted editing, iterative prompt refinement, and active verification of an AI tool’s stated information sources.

  • On successful completion, learners will be able to critically evaluate AI-generated FL materials for linguistic accuracy, level appropriateness, cultural sensitivity, pedagogical soundness, and factual grounding in verifiable sources.
